Gifting is the fastest way to win hearts in Fields of Mistria. Here's how the system works, what everyone loves, and the community-proven strategies that save you time and money.
How Gifting Works
Each character can receive one gift per day in Fields of Mistria. Every villager has gift preferences ranked Loved, Liked, Neutral, Disliked, and Hated. A Loved gift gives the biggest heart boost, while a Disliked or Hated gift gives zero points, but it will not lower your friendship, so it only wastes that day's gift.
You also gain +7 friendship points every day you talk to a character once, and friendship points never decay. Gifts come in many categories including armor, artifacts, blueprints, bugs, cooked dishes, crops, fish, foraged items, and materials.
Gift Point Values & Heart Levels
Gift quality determines the points you earn. A Loved gift gives +20 normally and +40 on the recipient's birthday; Liked gives +10 (+30 on birthdays), Neutral +3 (+23), and Disliked or Hated +0 (+20). That means even a disliked item on a birthday is worth the same as nothing, but a Loved gift on a birthday is the single biggest boost in the game.

From zero, reaching level 8 takes about 1125 points. With a Loved gift plus a daily talk that is 27 points per day, so around 42 days, faster if you time your Loved gifts to birthdays.
Loved Gift Ideas
Each romance candidate has a specific list, so broad categories are easy to get wrong. Reliable examples include Gold and Mistril Ingots for March, Golden animal products and Pumpkin Pie for Hayden, Hard Wood and Golden feathers or horns for Ryis, Frost Lily and Temple Flower for Celine, Crystal Rose and Mushroom Brew for Juniper, and Chocolate Cake or Pumpkin Pie for Eiland. Use the Gift Finder before handing over anything else.
Once you unlock cooking infusions, several dishes become universal gifts: Candied Queen Berries, Chicky Hot Chocolate, Floral Tea, and Tulip Cake are "likeable" by everyone, while Cow-Shaped Donut, Queen Berry Pie, and Scent of Spring are "lovable" universal gifts.

Community Gift Strategies (Save Time & Money)
Veteran players on r/FieldsOfMistriaGame have refined gifting into a science. These are the tips that show up again and again:
- Free daily soup first: grab the free bowl of soup at the Sleeping Dragon Inn every morning, it's +20 stamina, and more once the inn is repaired. Use it to squeeze in one more gift run or a few extra mines floors.
- Stockpile per-villager Loved items: keep 1-2 Loved gifts per target in a chest near town, so you never miss a daily gift because the item is at home.
- Cooked universal gifts are the cheat code: Candied Queen Berries, Chicky Hot Chocolate, Floral Tea and Tulip Cake are liked by everyone; Cow-Shaped Donut, Queen Berry Pie and Scent of Spring are loved universally. If you're dating multiple people, one cooking session covers them all.
- Requests count: completing a character's Request Board task or town quest gives friendship points on top of the gift, bundle them on the same day.
- Know the banned-gift trap: kids (Dell, Luc, Maple) and animals (Dozy, Henrietta) can't take alcohol, caffeine, chocolate, or bombs. Accidentally gifting one of those wastes the day's gift.
- Dates > gifts for romance: since 1.0, going on a date gives more heart points than anything else, once a candidate is unlocked for dating, prioritize the weekly date over a daily gift.

If you're buying gifts, Coffee is the best-value speedy food, the community's favorite budget stamina item. For hearts, a Loved birthday gift (+40) plus a daily talk (+7) is 47 points in one day, the fastest single-day friendship gain in the game.
